How To Determine The Best Acne Treatment During Pregnancy

acne treatment during pregnancyA lot of women find that they need acne treatment during pregnancy. It’s not uncommon at all, but being common does not make it any more fun. It’s still an annoying problem. Luckily, as long as you can understand it, you can treat it. Read on to learn more about the best acne treatment while you’re expecting…

It’s All In The Hormones

Many people find that they develop acne as teenagers. After all, that is when hormones tend to be in overdrive. The result is that our faces start to break out all the time during our teen years. Few people escape that fate.

The same problem can sometimes occur during pregnancy. After all, your body goes through a lot of changes and hormonal imbalances when you are carrying a baby. So, you have to expect that certain problems, such as acne, could arise.

A Predictable Problem

The nice thing about acne during pregnancy is that it is a somewhat predictable problem. It usually happens sometime in months one through three and then in month four, it generally completely clears up. That predictability is nice, but it’s still no fun to deal with the problem for 3 to 4 months, especially along with all of the other pregnancy problems that can and probably will come up.

Treatment Options To Consider

You can’t prevent your hormones from causing acne problems when you are pregnant. However, you certainly can treat the acne, once it pops up. Isotretinoin, which you may know as Accutane, is one medication that can be used for that purpose. However, your doctor has to make that call, since some medications are not good for pregnant women.

Another option is that you could use benzoyl peroxide to treat your acne scars. The nice thing about a benzoyl peroxide treatment is that you can buy it over the counter at any drugstore. However, if you are pregnant you shouldn’t use any medication or treatment without talking to your doctor anyway. So, always be sure to ask, first.

Water And Exercise

Although you have to be careful about exercise when you are pregnant, you still should do it. Develop a doctor-approved exercise routine and stick to it. You’ll be surprised at how good exercise is for your general health and especially for your skin.

And of course, you need to drink plenty of water. It can be very easy for an average person to become dehydrated. It’s even easier for that to happen to a pregnant woman. So be sure to stay hydrated and your skin and your whole body will be much better off. So will your unborn child.

Finally, acne is usually most prominent on the face and neck. So, be sure to take care of your face. A good anti acne face wash and moisturizer could be the perfect acne treatment during pregnancy.
